Thanks to all AFSA MAC members who participated in the Advanced Hydraulics Calculations course last week! As part of our June Chapter Meeting, held over lunch at the Courtyard Marriott in Valley Forge, we welcomed Paul Flannigan, President and Principal Consultant for Fire Sprinkler Services, LLC, to present on the topic. It was an informative afternoon for all who attended, as Paul went over assigning a K-factor to a branch line and balancing when branch lines come together, calculating back down the main, and dispensing some invaluable tips and tricks to use when designing, pricing, and estimating.
Other topics covered included: How to do a hydraulic pressure budget, how to gauge max pump demand from a flow test, using velocity to find bottlenecks and size pipe for flow, and K-factor myths. Paul’s time and expertise were greatly appreciated.
Finally, we announced the new legislative committee we want to create to work with the state on the current senate bill for fitter certification. For questions regarding the bill or more information on how to join the committee, please contact us here.
If you missed our June meeting, we have lots of events coming up in the second half of 2018. Keep an eye on our events section for all updated information on our AHJ/Fire Marshal training in September, and our annual fundraiser for The Burn Foundation, this year being held on October 26 at the Sheraton in Valley Forge, PA.
Thanks again to all in attendance, and we hope to see you at an AFSA MAC event in the future!
